Summer Youth Theatre Camp

returns to WCCT August 7-11, 2023

Great news for area youth interested in exploring the exciting world of theatre. Webster City Community Theatre is joining forces with Coralville Center for the Performing Arts to bring “The Call of the Matterhorn” to WCCT August 7-11, 2023. Registration is limited to 40 youth who will be 7 years old by camp through those entering 8th grade this fall. The deadline to register is August 1.

Footlighters Traveling Playhouse is a new touring program of the the Young Footliter Youth Theatre in Coralville. During the week-long workshop, campers will audition, rehearse, and perform a musical alongside three professional teaching actors. They will be taught theatre skills such as projection, improvisation, creative problem solving, working together to tell a story, and also learn about the Alps and the mountain ecosystem.

The Footliters program is very similar to the successful workshops the Old Creamery Theatre brought to WCCT 2013-2019. The Amana organization permanently closed in February 2022 during the pandemic. WCCT board members were pleased to learn that another theatre had picked up the mantle.

“The Call of the Matterhorn” is a new production with a script by Katie Colleta and original music by Jason Sifford. High above the foothills of the Swiss Alps, one snowy mountain towers above them all–a mountain only for the bravest of heart. The musical adventure is filled with magic, mystery, and tests of true character. The week culminates in two public performances on August 11 complete with costumes, props, makeup, sets, and songs. Each camper receives a role, script, and the support they need to shine.

Campers are expected to attend each day, Monday through Friday, from 9:30am to 1:30pm. They are required to bring a sack lunch and personal water bottle to each rehearsal.
